Second Anniversary Reflection

This October, I celebrated the second anniversary of Spearpoint Strategies. As I begin my third year of owning this company, I am excited for both creating impact with my clients and developing the company further. Every time I begin a new year at Spearpoint, I sit down and reflect on my growth, accomplishments, and challenges and I make a plan for the year ahead.

The second year of Spearpoint Strategies was exciting. As I had created a full list of service offerings, I was much better prepared for prospective client discussions. I spent time promoting these services on LinkedIn and brought a printed out list to all my meetings. This proved to be very effective. If people didn’t have to come up with the project themselves and were instead presented with a few choices, they were much more likely to express concrete, specific interest.

I developed my network to create a stronger sales pipeline. One of the big challenges of Spearpoint Strategies is long sales process, where a prospective client may take several months or even a year to begin a project, even if they were enthusiastic at the start. One of my continual marketing struggles is creating a sense of urgency without scaring people away. I am still tinkering with the language to do so, but I feel more confident in regards to urgency and other parts of my sales pitch. There are many people I met in the first year of business who I followed up with in my second year, and these reconnections have provided opportunities I never would have encountered on my own.

In my second year, I got out into the community more. I spoke at ACCESS24 about sustainable business planning, became a Hannah Grimes Coach, tabled at the Portsmouth Sustainability Fair, and attended many other in person and online events. These activities provide both networking and professional development, and I often leave feeling motivated.

The summer of 2024 I launched the Spearpoint Strategies Blog. This has been a wonderful journey of writing, collaboration, and research. The blog is a talking point and provides easy LinkedIn content. It is a platform for me to address common questions, misunderstandings, and opportunities I see.

Year three of Spearpoint Strategies has been good so far. I launched an Instagram business account to promote my services, writing, and sustainable business. As I hit my LinkedIn profile viewing limits multiple times in year two, I decided to test out LinkedIn premium. I have exciting client projects and opportunities to explore. There are also several business development plans in the pipeline for year three, and I am so excited to eventually share them with you all.

To close, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported my journey in ways large and small. Being an impact consultant and owning Spearpoint Strategies has been an exciting and challenging experience, and I am glad that I am able to continue doing this work for another year.

Sincerely,

Colleen Spear
